so I've been cleaning up the bike since i got it two months ago. I've found three grease fittings. how often should i pump them with a grease gun. and I'll need to buy one, how much should i expect to pay for a decent one?

And could someone speak to metric vs US grease fitting sizes... is there a difference? What kind of gun do we get? TIA

My big grease gun cost $1 at a retiring farmers clearance auction. It was full of grease too. I greased my cars with it, but found it wouldn't hang on to my later model boat motor nipples. I then bought one from Auto pro for less than $A20 which seems to fit my SR500 OK. I believe the man behind the counter said it was a "metric" one. However, I reckon all your standard "pull out the plunger, pack it with grease, screw the top back on, then let the plunger go" type grease guns are right royal pains in the butt. I always seem to get more grease out of the plunger end than the grease nipple end. And always seem to get air locks in em so the pump won't shift any grease. If you have an air compressor and can afford it, investigate an air operated one. Or at least see if you can get a manual one with compatible cartridge type refills. Mick
