Despite still messing with a couple of hiccups on my cafe bike, I'm starting another project. Trying for a full race version built SR. To that end... anyone mount Brembo, 4-piston (or other) front brake calipers to SR/XS forks? Does it require fab'd brackets (my guess is yes)? Model # of Brembo caliper and/or bike they're from would be helpful and bracket dimensions if possible. Thanks for any info! Much more ?? to follow (can't stop building these darn things!!!!) Hi Gary,
Good to see that you have the bug...I've had it for years it seems...doesn't really seem to go away either...think it started when I was about 16...
Yes, more than likely you'll need to fabricate an adaptor plate..I'm going through that at the moment...when time allows that is...too many projects...
The 4 piston calipers are wider than the single piston ones and they therefore extend further in on the inside. This can be where you run into problems as I have at the moment, especially if you intend to use wire wheels and twin discs...2 of everything.
I am fitting R6 calipers on mine...on R6 forks. But as I am using a Talon hub and wire spoked wheels the calipers won't mount as they normally do...they hit the spokes on the inside. You'll note that modern mags are fairly narrow-spoked where the calipers are...
I am now sorting out the measurements for 2 adaptor plates to space the calipers back and out wider. There will still be enough room for the discs (...you need to make sure that when you design something, the discs don't rub against the forks on the inside)...all good fun. I also need to have 2 custom-made floating discs as well....
If you use the SR front (mag) wheel it is likely that, as well as an adaptor plate, you'll need to fabricate a spacer to move the discs out a little.
I have noted kits that are available from Daytona and others in Japan to mount Nissin and other calipers to a standard SR leg. So check around on the web and you'll see what I mean. I can send you a couple of pics to illustrate what I mean.
Good to see you're into 'it'...

Thanks Stew. Got the email! That's what I imagined. There's a vintage race site here ( www.wakularacing.com/ ) that has a 2-piston Brembo set up that may work. The site states it's for 290mm max diam. discs (think mine are 298mm). But I'm going to email them and see. They make an adapter plate for their Brembos, but it's for forks that I'm not familiar with (I think they're flattracker forks). Yes, I am officially hooked. I've got in mind a beach cruiser after the race bikes (did I say bikes? As in two hopefully ). Here's a great story about a guy and the race bike he built. Great inspiration. www.ahrma.org/machines/honda_450.htm .The AHRMA (as well as WERA) are the vintage race governing bodies here in the US (not sure if they're international). Been on their sites checking out the machine requirements and came across that story. AHRMA has a class called "Sound of Singles" that the SR fits right into, as well as the Formula 500 I believe. See ya 'round the garage. Gary Hopwheels
