Hi all, For my project I may have to convert my '79 rear disc to a '80-'81 drum brake. Are there any differences in the frames other than the m/cyl. mount? I want to stay with the cast wheel. Has anyone done this conversion? Would anyone want to trade for the disc setup? Thanks,
dave

Hi, From memory there is a bit of a difference in the right side of the swing arm where the brake rod goes back...this allows the room to fit the parts...it might almost be easier to get the swing arm and rod setup at the same time as the wheel. It should go straight in.
I have used cable actuated brakes on two of mine...just to be different.

Thanks Stew, I figured to exchange the swingarm as well. I just wonder if there any additional mounting points on the frame. Is the brake pedal mounting and return spring anchor the same on both? Most manufactures list different rearsets for drum or disc. Thanks,

Hi, From memory the mounting for the brake pedals are the same on both. I'll go out to the garage in the morning and make sure...but I think I am right.
Just had a look; they both seem very similar to me. The pedal adjustment/stop bolt is mounted slightly differently, but appears to be in the same position.
I recall that the pedal spring was the same as well.
The brake anchor arm mounts to the bottom of the swing arm on the drum braked bike...but with the correct swingarm that won't be an issue.
Standard pegs are identical as well.
If you want rearsets, then any that use the standard brake pedal spline will fit both.
I make my own rearsets and usually use a cable for the rear drum actuation, so I don't use the SR pedal spline.

Hi Stew, Thanks for taking the time to check that out for me. I very much appreciate it. I'm still in the parts gathering stage of my project so, I now have a good idea of what to look for. Thanks again,
