Hello fellow enthusiasts. Does anyone know if a xs650 rear wheel will work on an sr? Thanks, Steve

Hi.
Yes it will 'almost' go straight in.
You will either have to enlarge the slot on the SR's swing arm for the larger 650 axle, or you can put 'top hat' style bushings into the wheel bearings to allow the wheel to accept the 17mm SR axle.
You have to correspondingly shorten the internal bearing spacer in the hub as well. Not hard if you have access to a lathe.
The 650 axle is too heavy anyway so the SR's one is preferable in my mind.

Thanks Stew, This is good news. I am assuming the amount of material I remove from the spacer will be equal to the depth of the top hats. Thanks again, Steve

Yes, that right. Except I just remembered it'd be easier to actually make a spacer with the smaller axle diameter (I did this...it was a long time ago...) , mild steel or good quality aluminium would do. Make it a little loose on the axle so you don't have any binding problems. Use the central positioning ring from the original spacer. It's not hard to do.
Actually Yamaha have these top hat bushing inserts on several of their own models, guess it stops having to get special sized bearings made. Can't tell you what models have them unfortunately. Still they're easy things to make.
I did this on my E model cafe racer and it worked beautifully. I have a TX750 rear drum on that one.
