I have a 79 sr500, (only sold in the states until 81) and parts are rather rare out here. It has the twin disc setup on it, but I am looking for something a little stronger with better handling. I plan on building a cafe racer and taking it to do some track days. ANy ideas on upgrading the yokes to admit larger forks with more modern brakes. (something from the mid 90's say) A straight swap of a front end is ideal but if I have to piece together something, that would be fine as well.

G'day Oconnor, why not give the heavy mags the flick, replace with lighter spoked wheels, that way forks will have an easier time?,(without the need for replacement? ),have you tried braided brake hose?,makes a fair bit of difference to spongy std setup too, hth?

I have wire wheels and dual discs I belive from a 650. Still wasn't too happy. Plus its a toy bike. Why not be a little over zealous?

Hi, I'm fitting a set of 43mm Yam R6 forks to one of mine...bit of work, but it will hopefully be worth it in the end.
I have had to get triple clamps made, but R6 ones may work on another bike with a new spindle to suit the SR...less offset as well....
Adjustable spring tension, rebound and compression damping...nice to have. I haven't received the new clamps yet. Will probably take some tuning and new springs etc....I'm looking forward to it.
Mine is getting a lot of other work as well so it'll be a while before it turns a wheel.
