Hi, I have been meaning to ask you how your black SR is coming along....you gave us all of these nice pics of the engine and chasis so on, but since then I have been wondering how it is progressing....so let us know how it's going.

Hey Stew: Well... it's back apart again. I have some wiring issues to sort. I am now also waiting for rearsets from VD-Classic. The set I bought from Spec II did not work out. (Not going to run them down publicly, and I'm past my anger over the situation). I did try to kick her over, 2 weeks ago. Had it all dialed I thought, but it wouldn't start. Honestly couldn't tell if it was no spark, not happy without super-high octane fuel (think that 11:1 piston may require better than the 91 available at the local station), or what?
I've also since my last post, stripped down the front end of my '78 for a partial cleanup and restoration (mostly cosmetic, but I might upgrade the fork springs).
And I'm still fiddling with a new project SR/XT. That one I'm tearing down the engine myself, and have had some fun, new learning experiences (and had to order some specialty tools and wait for them to come in)...
Anyway, that's what's what over here. I'm headed towards a boat load of questions on the SR/XT race bike soon.
Thanks for asking! I'll be getting focused back in on the café bike pretty quick here and will post more progress. The rearsets will be here end of August-ish.

Gary, Thanks for the update...sometimes things take a while to sort themselves out...
I use 98 octane over here...Shell or Mobil usually...works fine. We used to have stuff called lead free super here a while ago but it's gone now. The older bikes and cars now run an additive and unleaded...
