My name is Robert. I'm from Long Island, NY. My first motorcyle was a new (leftover) '79 SR500-black I bought in 1980. I was 20 and had been researching which bike to buy for about a year. Regardless of the reviews about the vibration and modest HP, I was impressed about the torque, balance and handling not to mention the cool retro look and low price! I chose the last '79...I liked the rear disc brake which the '80 didn't have and got a great price on the '79- about 1,500. The day it was delievered..it was raining (light mist) after finally getting it started I learned how to shift and ride within a few hours (I had not ridden a motorcycle before) i enjoyed the bike and riding alot.... whenever i tried a different bike- ie. Honda 450DOHC, I realized how well balanced and comfortable the SR was regardless of the "shaking" I sold the bike a year later to purhcace a second car. Not to much time went by when I decided to replace my SR. I bought a year old '80-ruby red and kept it about 10 years. i rode it about 10k miles until in 1990 i sold it. It looked good as new. Several years ago I bought a '75 (Yamaha) XS650-black... didn't have it long. I've decided to, once again (hopefully) find a nice 78-80 SR. These bikes are so much fun, handle and look great. I was surprised to learn production continued until 2000!! Robert Spinello
