Hi,
My name is Richard and I live in Oakland California. I just started building an SR. I got a beater from a guy for 400 bucks and all that was really usable on it were the frame, fork tubes, wiring harness, and engine, which I will completely rebuild. I have had 4 of them over the years, but not for about 15 years.
I built a beautiful black and gold one in Japan, but sold it when I left there.
I think I have most of what I want to do covered, but I have a few questions, especially about frame mods and the body work.
I want to cut as much of the frame off as possible. No passenger stuff, no battery, and no rear fender, no center stand, etc. I will weld a new gussett over the old spot where the left rear passenger foot peg is. I think I will also remove the right side extension for the foot peg and muffler and put on some kind of hanger for a dunstall type muffler.
I also want to run a battery eliminator and electronic ignition.
I want to get a Ducati SS cafe type half fairing and one of the norton type dunstall seats and tanks. Not sure where to get them. Some on the web, but not sure of the quality. Any suggestions?
I've got an aluminum swingarm coming, and will fit XS wire wheels. I've got the new spokes and a set of rims, and now just need a set of SR hubs, (front disc and rear drum). I am also looking for a good used full floater late model front rotor that has holes matching the six on the SR. I think I'll get a used Brembo 4 pot caliper, (or maybe a six pot if I can find one) I want to cut the rotor fastening brackets off one of the fork tubes so I can have a clean look for the one rotor set-up on the front end. I am a tiny bit concerned about that as the tubes are cast and I worry about weakening it. Anybody ever done that before? So got any suggestions? Thanks
