Gday all, Im Chris in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. I am now the proud owner of an absolute mint condition 78 SR500 that was bought for me by my loving wife as a 30th birthday present. I will get some piccies of it together shortly.
I am having some issues with plugs that foul after only 1 ride, maybe im doing something wrong or maybe its running too rich, im not sure. Im too used to fuel injection bikes!
I also have a 2006 Suzuki GSXR1000 roadbike and a Honda VFR400 racebike.
I hope to talk to a heap of you soon.

WELCOME TO THE SR500 FORUM CHRIS!
Great B-Day gift from your wife! I'm sure you'll have no problem sorting out your bike. Not knowing the history of it, you should first start by removing and cleaning/servicing the carb on it. Give it some inspection and ask any questions.

Nice present! Sooty black is too rich, also be sure you're running the right plug to begin with, no telling what a PO may have installed. Welcome to the Forum.

I know the full history of the bike. It used to belong to a friend of my fathers for as long as he can remember. Its in absolute pristine condition, serviced always and the previous owner is only a phonecall away. To look at it you wouldnt think it had 60 000 kays on it. It looks too good. Its beautiful. Im in love.....

Not only does she buy me bikes, she cooks, washes my clothes, puts my daughter to bed, works and makes extra coin, clean the house and last but not least, whinges when I dont help her do any of the beforementioned!!!  |

You also might want to look at the jetting. Check out the "Minton article" about sr carb mods.
