Hi, just came to finding your site by way of "troutthunter" (thanks). I have a 79 that I just picked up. It has been sitting in a leaking dirty garrage since 1980. The piston moved, actually moved freely, absolutly everything else was frozen (maybe petrified). I had to try it's an old classic & deserved a chance. It's my winter project & I love to tinker. I oiled ( frozen spark plug, brakes, carb, cables, took apart, freed &cleaned every electrical contact. The damm thing started after about 20 min & a very tired leg. I did about 10 warm ups & cooldowns, freeded the clutches, got oil running well through the engine & was finally able to remove the spark plug. The next day, I had to ride it, what a blast & the next day again. So now to take it apart & give it some justice... I will be visiting and learning from you folks, Thanks in advance Dave

Welcome Dave, These guys are a great resource for your project. Be sure to start a thread in the projects board so we can watch it come together.

HI DAVE AND WELCOME TO THE SR500 FORUM!
That's excellent that you were able to get it running before digging into it. Always feels better when you know that a unit has the potential to work before you get into a project.
Looking forward to following along on your project.
G Man

Hi Dave, I also know Trouthunter, he is getting a bunch of aluminum swingarms together for some SR people. Good guy.
