I am nearing retirement and am planing on acquiring an SR500.
As a youngster (1960ish) I use to go to the Sacramento Mile (dirt) at the old CA State Fair Grounds. Back then it was the BSA 500 singles, Triumph 500 twins and Harley 750 flat heads. You could tell the bike by the sound. Always liked the BSA 500 single sound.
Kind of leaned toward Yamaha in the 1960/70s so I have a soft spot for them.
As youngsters we went to any kind of car and motorcycle races we could get to.
I have been studying motorcycles lately on the web. Tons of great info.
I think an SR500 will be an exciting bike for me to wrench on. I am excited that it is popular and am hoping to get some help from the veterans here.
My uncle, Dick Anderson, was a Harley mechanic in Sacramento back in the 1940s.
I am also related to Harold Ball who had the "Motorcycle Sports Center" on 16th & W Street in Sacramento. BSA/Yamaha
Got my first bike when I was 15.
1947 Harley 125cc (basket) 1962 Yamaha Trail 55cc (new) 1963 YDS2 250cc (like new) ? Tohatsu 50cc (used) 15,000rpm? ? BSA Bantam 175cc trail (used) ? Honda Dream 150cc (basket) ? Kawasaki Bushwhacker 175cc (used) ? Suzuki X6 Hustler 250cc (used) 196? Yamaha 80cc (used) 2004 Yamaha TT-125LE (new)
I like the Café style bikes too.
