Here is my introduction: Name LBJORN ; State: HI City: Honolulu
OK I was just given an 81 SR 500 by a co-worker. Not running, he said it had no Spark. As far as I can tell it was put under the house in 88 and never riden since, maybe even longer.
Only 13,000 mi.
Unfortunately, the moisture under the under the huose was not kind to the exterior. The plug was stuck and the enitre electrode came out leaving the threaded part of the plug behind. All my attempts to free the plug housing were not sucessful.
Now the engine is out and the bike is pretty much stripped to the frame. Removed the head, and gave it to a friend....... he said he'd get it out, but I fear for the worst, one week later and he has been unable to free it (anybody got one for sale?). Anyway, the rest of the engine is in excellent shape, I am not even going to replace the rings.
Bike is going to need fork tubes, as the old ones are rusted. Other chrome pieces will have to be replaced or painted.
Anyway, that is my story, I should have been documenting the process with my camera, I will start that today. I am giving myself until August 08 to get the bike back on the road...
Advice, and comments are always welcome. THanks!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the site.Lots of penetrating fluid around the plug i am guessing you have tried. The use of a heat gun(torch) on the alloy around the plug also usually does wonders dont get it too hot though. Loctite also make a product here in oz. thats called FREEZE IT that is also ment to be good. GOOD LUCK

Use a hex (long tube type) socket after you've warmed it up (the head that is) . If that doesn't work (breaks off) drill it out & get it helicoiled , its got to be cheaper than a new head ! Cheers Dave.
