well, how is it going? sigment here, reporting from houston, texas U.S.
I just picked up a complete 79 sr500 (running) a few weeks ago for 400usd!!!
The only issue: it smoked bad! But it still had great compression, so just to be safe (instead of just replacing the oil ring on the piston) i ordered a new piston and got the head bored once over. Start fresh.
well, i have been fascinated on the brat style sr400s, not the chopper type but the other street looking ones, kind of flattrack style but not really lol.
I am excited now that i finally have one. I have a feeling it will make a nice addition to my 79 kawa kz400 and 81 kawa kz750.
:Warning: Most of my questions will probably be about parts (where to get and who speaks japanese) because, so far, i havent found many places in the u.s. to pick up the cool stuff ie. nitrohead seats or custom tanks etc.
thanks for having me and hopefully i will be able to offer some good info on general bike questions as i have built from the frame up 2 and restored many more...
thanks all
will ;D

Hi mate, Welcome to the site! That stuff is available over here in Aus no worries. Try Deus or Vanem. I know that Vanem do International business all the time. So perhaps try them for a start. www.vanem.com.au/parts.htmLook on our site here for the rest...in Links... www.warouw.com/sr500act/SR

Welcome mate
Every time a question about parts in the US comes up, Seatle Sports Plaza seems to get the nod, or Mikes XS.
Links in the forum here somewhere.

G'day sigment
Good on ya for getting yourself an SR!
I'm in Houston at the mo' ;D, but only until this Thur 1st Nov (my flight back to Aussie via LA leaves Houston 11pm).
Maybe if you've got some free time, we can meet up and I can check out your bike! I have transport here.
I'm staying in a B&B in Houston Heights (ph. (713) 868 1130 extn 119). A more expensive alternative is my Aussie cellphone (+61 404 435 167).

Hello Sigment,
you seem to travel much, so just let me tell you that you can find many parts in Germany, where Yamaha sold a lot of 500 and 400 SR .
for many years, this bike was a must !
There are two different motorcycles driving licence, and many people are only allowed to drive 34 hp bikes. Just take a look at ebay.de !
