I'm new to the board and, as requested I'm posting up an introduction of myself to all. Let me start by saying that I hope to contribute as much as I take from this site. I've been an SR 500 owner since I bought mine new in 1978. It is a great bike. My overall experience as a motorcyclist is as varied as can be. I started out as a teen with a Bridgestone 175, proceeded to racing DT-RT- and YZ Yamahas in pro level flat track, and went several years without a street bike. When I saw the SR in Cycle World magazine, I wanted one and bought one, sight unseen, in February of 1978. For 6 years, it was the only bike I had (except for my flat tracker), but when I rode it 400 miles round trip 2 up to spectate at the Springfield Mile, I realized I needed a bigger bike for touring. I've been through a few "big"bikes since then, but my SR has been my trusty thumper for Sunday rides on the backroads. I have an affinity for single cylinder bikes, I have a BSA B50 MX that I ride in the occasional AHRMA vintage motocross, and I'm hoarding a Harley Sprint 350 for restoration, and a '99 TTR 250 for Enduro's, Hare Scrambles and trail riding. I'm glad I found this site and look forward to hearing from and conversing with all here. Oldtimebiker, AKA "Diamond" Jim
