This place is a vast pool of knowledge! How could I not join?! Thanks for all the great advice given to other people. I can't wait to ask my own questions. Well I wanted to tell you about my first day with my permit and tags on my "new" 1980 Yamaha SR500. I bought it in December 06 for $300 and I have been chomping at the bit to go ride! 1st ride of the day- Bike died at a busy intersection. FINALLY got it started again. That was almost embarrassing. 2nd ride of the day- Almost ended horribly worse than it did. As I'm riding up a hill and around a corner I feel my rear end start to slide but then it stopped. I pulled onto a side street as soon as possible, thinking I'm had a flat tire. Well, as I turned, my rear end slides around and I'm about to bite have a one on one with the asphalt. Thank the Lord he gave me good mountain biking instincts. I stuck my right foot down, pushing for all I was worth and managed to keep the bike upright, prepared for the "wobble". Well, nothing further happened and I immediately pulled into a gas station. What I saw when I looked down just about gave me a heart attack. Oil was everywhere! Thankfully nothing broke, but my Oil Plug fell out while I was going 50 mph! Holy mackerel! I have ordered all the parts needed and by the large amounts of oil that leaked out from the bike at the gas station I am pretty sure nothing is broke. Lesson learned- pay attention to torque setting, even if you didn't do the work! Anyways, just saying hi and I just thought all you veteran riders would appreciate a good first timers near heart attack story.

Hi, Yes welcome mate...I once had my countershaft nut and sprocket come off and with it the sleeve behind it...that leaves a large hole in the gearbox and oil gushes out. I too remained upright...luckily! Always look at stuff like this yourself, especially if someone else has worked on the bike. Unfortunately I had no-one to blame but myself SR

Had a close one on my XT550 , they were a real bugger if you don't bleed the bleeding bleeder after an oil change . (I put in to much oil too) When it hydrauliced oil spewed through the clutch casing onto the rear tyre , yes very scary . By the way nice SR for a good low price . Check a few more things out before your next spin yeah . Cheers from Dave .

Yep.. It came on the bike when I purchased it, but it is a Harley Exhaust. I bet the Harley guys would get a *kick* outta that.

Is it an aftermarket harley pipe? Or an OEM that can be picked up discounted from Harley owners who throw their pipes immediately? looks good.
