New to posting on the site, but have been reading for a long time love to read. I do ride every day to work about 60 miles. At this time I ride on a 04 r1100s bower cup (BMW) and a 06 KTM 950 SM and also working on a 80 SR 500. My first street bike was 78 SR500 One question I have is I will be going to Adelaide and Brisbane in March 14 to 30 for the Police and Fire games. What are some of the good places to see and what areas can I ride if I rent a bike ( wife does not like it)

[glow=red,2,300]HI WHEELS2. WELCOME TO THE SR500 FORUM![/glow]
Great bikes. Looking forward to hearing more about 'em. Can't help you with Adelaide though. The best I can offer is that is the name of the street I have lived on most of my life!
Talk to you soon, G Man

Wheels2. We,ve got hills lining the whole of adelaide from the eastern suburbs all the way to down south. You can ride pretty much twenty minutes in either of those directions and find yourself in the hills looking at plenty of nice roads. I personally prefer riding up near crafers, upper sturt and that cause it's pretty close for a quicky. Most of these roads are 60/80km's though so you'd have to look a bit further to find some with a higher speed limit. The road from nairne to callington alongside the SE freeway is short but good fun (100/110kph). Gorge road apparently is good but so many people have used it as a racetrack that the police are almost always gonna get you along there if you mucking about. Been a few bad accidents too. I'm just assuming that you'd be looking for nice twisty hills roads. There's heaps nearby the city though. Hills, open road, suburbs. Have fun!

I have always wanted to go to australia. A friend is going to be doing the karate and shooting. I will be watching and having the fun. For you guys down there, what are the good places to see in Adelaide and Brisbane. I will have a lot free time and want to see as much as I can. Australia is the only place outside of the US I want to see.

Depends what you want to see.... Do you like seeing the tourist attractions or hanging out in pubs with the locals? I suppose the same goes for riding. Are you a person who likes to eat as many kilometers as quick as you can or do you want to take in the scenery on a leisurely ride? I reckon if you post in the general discussion with a title something like "What are the ten things to see in adelaide and brisbane" and put up a bit about what your interested in seeing and doing while your here you'd get a few suggestions. If all else fails, feel free to pop round to my place for a few beers. ;D

Hi, Mate the Adelaide Hills probably have some of the best twisty roads around...I spent many hours up there on my bikes....Excellent and seemingly neverending! Try the Birdwood Museum for a start and go from there. Lots of nice bikes up there on a weekend... Perhaps one of the Adelaide guys could take you around.... SR

Birdwood museum! 100% agree on that one. Those roads around there would be beautiful to take in as well. I'd put my hand up to take you around but i'm currently on a government enforced 80kp/h speed restriction which is somewhat annoying. If i go onto my probationary licence before then though, i'll hold my hand high ;D Here's a link to that motor musuem, not many pics but it'll give you an idea of what it's about. www.history.sa.gov.au/motor/motor.htm

Adelaide Hills! Good stuff...ah I loved the Gorge Road (...and all of the others too)...smooth grippy tarmac, committing yourself to blind off camber turns over a rise at 'speed'...ah yes....the old days. Corkscrew Road to Montacute Road...Ashton to Lenswood and on to 'Lobie'...the Lobethal Road...ah yes.... Came off on one of the turns at the Kangaroo Creek dam once...ah well...at least I had full leathers on....heh, heh...ran over some radiator coolant from a car crash...nose of my beautiful single seat ZXR wedged under the armco...dragging the bike out with my arm through the 5.5" rim. At least I could ride it home...with my tail between my legs... Enough reminiscing... SR

Got a chance to meet wheels2 (Kevin) today when he picked up the head pipe he bought off me. Good meetin' you Kevin. It was cool to bs a bit about bikes and what not. Thanks for listening to the '79 run as well. Hope your trip to Australia is great. Sounds like the trip of a lifetime man. Take care and talk to you soon. Maybe a ride some time. So is the BMW you have like this?: www.carsearch.com/784371.htmFlippin' sweet! Gotta admit, had to look it up (told you I'm new to all this). Nice ride. Gary

It was great to meet you. Your sr is great and I love the sound of open pipe. My BMW is a 04 and is blue and white, but looks like the 05.

Cool. Hey I checked with Lee, and he did in fact graduate from Foothill in '74... small world. He vaguely remembers you, but thought you guys ran in different crowds.
