Hello, I have recently aquired a sr500 flattracker!
i have no idea what year it is, but ill figger that out..
I have been looking for a real flattracker for some time and this one fell into my lap, so to speak.
I have learned that these boards rule, so i had to go find me a sr500 forum, so here i am!
I am stoked to have this bike as I have raced flattrack 2 times but on heavy harleys that were really streetbikes, and i want to make this bike run good and start racing it!
and i really know nothing about em, cept that they make good flatrackers!
didnt have my camera at my shop today so ill take a pic tomorrow...
about me...
I manufacture cast motorcycle parts for a living as well as build harleys, primarily period ones only.
in addition to this SR i ride:
a 1947 harley early 50's flattrack style street bike, that is actually a knucklehead with two front heads, that i built when all the old timers told me it wouldnt work the way i was doing it, and it runs great
a 1957 harley that is a full on early 60's style chopper
a rigid frame harley evolution powered flattracker that i raced a year and a half ago that i am now finally finishing...
a 2001 suzuki tl1000s streetfighter.

Hi Dave, Welcome to the site...interesting lot of bikes there...I keep thinking of building a Knucklehead bike...but other things keep taking my attention. I used to race mile racing here in Aus on YZ's...a while ago now... SR  |

Gee Dave, great to hear from you here at this board (which is also new to me). If u are who u say u are, I'll be watching this space, because knowing u (and your skills) it'll be another great machine.

Hi, Dave -welcome aboard - I'm a new member myself, and I'm really enjoying going through all the posts for technical info. I have a SR500 flattacker myself _ it's a Woody Kyle prepared champion frame with a bored & stroked SR500 engine set up for AHRMA. Thing is, I don't know what to do with it. I bought a boatload of Yamaha SR500 and TT500 stuff to get at what I really wanted, a cherry '78 SR500E with a little milder racing engine. Now that I have that project finished, I'm concentrating on my latest project, restoring a '74 BMW R90S that originally came out of Reg Pridmore's shop in CA. I'm not a racer, so don't run in those circles. (double meaning!) Got any ideas who might be interested in the flattracker? If no one wants it like it is, I may part it out - the individual parts may well be worth more than the whole bike. Anyway, If I can help you with any stuff you need, let me know ....Jim in Miami, FL

finally im back!!! ok, i am really not sure if i have a sr500 or a tt500 but we got it to fire and im gonna get the stuff to rebuild the carb... how do i identify it??? i cant find any serial number on it!!! i just dont know where to look...  any help would be great, i have an old reciept but it says sr500 one place and tt500 another!!! it does say its a 1976 though... thanx! i really want to get a matching set of wheels for it and maybe a quick change hub for the back, i have a brembo caplier and i could make a carrier for it, but i dont know yet, i really just want to find out exacty what it is so i can get it running as it is! |

The frame looks like XT/TT because it has the right top and bottom rear shock mounts and foot peg monuts for XT/TT.
I reckon the engine is XT/TT as well due to it looks like it has the points cover and inspection plug on the righthand side.

Never thought I'd see you here Dave. Nice air cleaner in the current Horse. You gonna do it up all chopper-style? The sr is a very pop bike in Japan, so there are many custom shops that trick these out. Have you heard of Bratstyle? Your probably familiar with the Japanese builders, but there are a good few SR custom shops over there.

hell no!
this a full on flat tracker and i got it to race!
but i am going to polish the tank
repaint the frame and rear fender
and
i have a set of 7 spoke morris mags that are going on it with
the ultimate glory set up
Knock off hubs in the back, on the morris mags!
and i have a brembo caliper for the back and i am going to run it to a handlebar master...
coz since my rt ankle is fused i have better control with my hand
and also
it will be easier to remove the brakes and have 2 diff sprockets that way!
and the whole carrier will be on with quick release pins...
and the wheels are gonna get the glory f-ed up paintjob,,,
and
it is actually a 76 tt500...

I thought the SR didn't put in an appearance til 78, so 76 would exclude it from being a SR
