hello everybody, i'm new and i come from penrith, sydney. i have just got my bike learners licence and love the classic shape of the yamaha sr500. the noise is nice too. my dad has had 2 of these bikes (one in pieces and one complete) out on his property for years and i am very eager to get one on the road. recently the complete one has been playin up though.

Got my eyes open for one of those myself. To me it looks like the early ones have pretty much the same frame as the SR's, but they've got lots of things I reckon would be desirable for a cafe bike. e.g. I reckon the tanks are alloy? Smaller headlight, points ignition (easier for backyard mechanic to deal with I think), spoked wheels, small drum brakes, 520 chain & sprockets, upswept pipe, simpler carby, etc. Would I be right in thinking that the rear foot pegs aren't mounted on the great bike frame mopunted brackets? Have the specs for the TT which says the TT is only 119 kg. I'm guessing the XT would therefore have to be lots lighter than the SR (SR about 163 kg?), even after adding lights, horn, mirrors, etc. Anyone thinking I'm on the right track? Feel free to let me know if you reckon I don't know my a@# from my elbow. Mick

i think ur right as i have tried to lift both of the sr and xt while sittin on 'em and the xt seems to be a s%#tload lighter. must be all the chrome fairings and un-spokey wheels
