Howdy friends and neighbors!
I am new to this site, having found it through Christer from Norway. I am retired military with both Army and Navy service, Vietnam vet helicopter pilot. My oldest child (son) is an Air Force pilot flying KC-10 tankers, and my baby girl is a Captain in the US Marines who has spent most of her time in anti-terrorism something ......... she won't say. Our oldest daughter is local and is a personal trainer/Red Cross instructer/nutritionist, etc, etc, etc.... miss personality. Also, 5 grandkids, wonderful kritters.
I was the proud owner of a '78 model SR500, like some of you. Picked it up in Pensacola, FL while in the Navy. I also have cared for a '56 BSA Goldstar 500DBD many many years ago (my all time favorite bike), and currently ride a '96 Suzuki Savage LS650.
My Savage has a few upgrades, including ...
-one size overbore w/ silicone carbide cylinder treatment
-reground cam
-36mm Mikuni VM w/ dial-a-jet and UFO
-my own 1.75" header w/ freeflow muffler
12.5" Progressive 418 shocks
-and an acquired but not installed set of 40 mm Ceriani forks and HD Sportster cast aluminum wheels front and rear w/ brake upgrade
Currently the engine is making 42-45 hp and 39-40 lb/ft torque.
Compression is still stock and the ports/valves are still stock except for a little opening of the exhaust port at the header connection.
Plans for head work is being finalized but may take a little while to get done. Budget stuff, you know how it is. The head on a Savage does not leave many options.
Anyway, I am glad I found ya'll.
Michael
