TLDR: anyone have fuel line diagrams? New to the forum and the SR world. Yamaha outboard technician looking for help. Acquired a 1980 sr500 with the carb off. Mikuni carb but unsure which one, not seeing any number markings on the body. Found various kits online and had to order an extra diaphragm and spring for the carb to get all the needed parts replaced. Trying to figure out the proper hose locations from the various fittings on the carb and shutoff valve on the tank, as the diagrams I have found online show the hoses but not their connection points. Currently have fuel coming out of what I believe to be the overflow fitting on the bottom of the carb. Attaching some pictures I have of the carb. Got it to run long enough to get my helmet on and back it out of the shop, then it stalled. Does anyone have this carb setup and have some pictures or can walk me through the various hose connection locations?

The mikuni carb is a vm34ss. Yamaha made them in bulk with no markings or minimal ones. Fuel line is right. Straight down to the side as you have. You have the vacuum line disconnected. It is from the back of the fuel tap to the side of the carby, to the left of where the fuel is. Can see the empty connector for it.

Thanks Pete! I had the vacuum line there but took it off taking pictures so it was more visible. I think I need to find the proper carb kit for this thing. Initially I had a fuel pouring from the overflow fitting, so I put the old needle back for the float. It keeps fouling the plug after a few minutes of running, the only adjustments I can see are the hand screw at the throttle linkage and then the air screw on the opposite side of the carb. After my quick run down the street the idle shot up to 4k before I turned it off. Any tuning resources?

Hello mate, Follow this link for a decent explanation of VM34SS. If I could offer any advice it would be to not throw too much cash into getting carb sorted, rather spend cash on a round slide. I am running a VM34SS that works really well, but the amount of money (and bad language) it took replacing diaphragms etc. would have been better spent on a simpler set up.
