Hi Chaps--I'm just testing my recent "non goer" purchase a 1984 SR500, starts ok and runs reasonabely up to around 1/4-1/3 throttle , but, after that nothing at all, just dead, no missifiring no hesataion no banging just nothing at all until I come back to 1/4 throttle then runs fine (ish) again I have stripped and clean the carbi and cleaned all the jets etc, I have had CDI's fail on me in the past, some failed / worked intermittently when hot and got better when coolded but nothing like this now, it's got me stumped--any idea's regards ---Barry

Hi Chaps--UPdate I just had it running with a spark tester inline with Ht lead, at tick over it was a good reliable spark at 10mm, then I turned i the gap to about 5-6mm, increasing the revs and looking at the spark at about 3500 revs the engine died but the sparlk was as strong as ever, so it must be the fuel / carbi, I just checked the level and supply they were ok--Barry

Hi Chaps--After giving some more thought, it sounds like the secondry part of the carbi isn't working, apart from the obvious like blocked jet or the needle dropped off, what could cause that?--Barry

Hi Chaps--another update, Jet needle has not droped, I took the SR500 out for another spin,at slow ish speed it was surging a little bit, engine cuts out at 4000 revs, then come back in with the throttle backed off, this time I choked the carbi a bit with my hand and the revs shot up, checked the carbi bowl fuel level ( with an external tube) at around 8-10 mm from the top, so after all that, it must be the main jet blocked, I'll have a look tomorrow--Barry
