High All,
I am reviving My 1981. It has been on hold for about 10 years. Finally have the time to get into the project. It has almost 5300 miles on Her. I bought Her as a rescue from a collapsed barn, laying on Her side. So… new cylinder sleeve (stock) and piston. And rebuilt head. I put less than a mile on the rebuild due to over heating. My guess is that the carb was not right….too lean. So I am going through the whole bike systems to make sure that She is ready for a restart.
I am 2 days in.

I have run into a problem. There is no oil getting to the head. Checked the feed tube and it is dry. All other lines have oil in them. There is not a lot of info in the manual. Other than “if no oil to the head or coming out of the bleeder, shut Her down and fix the problem”.
Is it realistic to kick Her over to check the oil pressure at the bleeder? And, what would cause no oil to the head feed line?
Thanks

Jbeals, welcome to the forum. I would work back towards the pump. Fire it up , remove bleed screw on filter housing, anything? If not I would be looking at the pump…is the drive pin on the shaft okay ? While your in there check the pump rotors for clearance (the Haynes manual clearly shows how to strip and rebuild). Other members might point you a different route but I reckon other than serious surgery..engine out etc etc the above is worth exploring.

Oh boy what a great sound!!! She fired up and is pumping oil. Fresh oil and gas. New gaskets on the sump cover and a copper crush on the drain plug. All New gaskets on the stock exhaust.
The revival is here. More to do ….. but I know that She runs and tick over, at least on choke. I think the carb is FUBAR, but I will check into that.
Thanks to Andy for advice

I'm glad Andy's advice got you sorted.
(Edit) It's not uncommon, after an oil change, to find no oil appearing at filter cover bleed screw, caused by an air lock.
You may not want to dig in as deep as the oil pump to fix it. So here's an easy process you can follow if the oil doesn't flow from the filter cover bleed screw when you fire up after an oil change....
Kill the motor: Remove the engine sprocket cover to see a hard oil line which meets the motor near the clutch adjuster. It's attached by 2 socket screws.
Trace that oil line down under the motor until you see a tang that secures it to the motor. Loosen the single screw that secures the tang.
Then loosen the two socket screws that attach the end of the oil line, (next to the clutch adjuster.) When oil wells out, fasten the two socket screws and you've eliminated the air lock.
Secure the tang underneath and repeat start up, once more looking for oil emerging from the filter cover bleed screw.
Job done!

Hey Andy, good you are not familiar with said carb, I think the gentleman is indicating it is F**#*# Up Beyond All Recognition.

Yeah 👍, most encouraging. Not heard of that particular carb though so info might be limited. I took the above to be a neat bit of typically ironic British humour....
