I'm currently planning a long road trip with, shaft drive in mind. Has anyone had experience with yam xs triples, especially the 850?

The best advice I think I can give you on this topic is, (and I do love Yamaha product)..... RUN! I sincerely think you could find a way better mount for a long trip. Our triples of yesteryear were really not the best they could be. Just about everything else would be fine if you find a clean low mileage example. G man

Many years ago, I had an XS 750. The only pain on that bike was setting up the valves. I finally had to bite the bullet and purchase Yams special tool in order to remove the shims. Although performance wise it wasn't the best, it was reliable to a fault but I never had it on any trips longer than 250 miles (round trip) I always thought the 850 was a sharp bike, should be pretty much the same as the 750. I have to agree with G Man though, I'd look for something a bit more current. If you have the bucks, The Honda Pacific Coast may be a consideration. 800 cc, watercooled (a big plus), shaft drive, fairing etc, and a good looker. Looks to me like it wuld make a good intermediate long distance bike. Bronson7
