Hi all, Currently have a 1984 SR400. Runs like a dream and all complete. There is an option as I just found a 1979 SR400 with lots of spare parts, wheels, 500 components, frame etc. The bike is just a rolling chassis but all parts there to build it and finish it. Plus plenty more for spares. Just wondering if it would be worth it to build it and that way have parts left over that might fit both of the bikes. Question is will the 79 model parts fit on my 84? Can never get my head around it. Know the difference between the 500 and 400. From research don't think there is any major issues going between carby models. Issues happen when getting into fuel injection and carby.

Mechanically, it's all going to be very much mix 'n' match, so good news there, but there are some changes to the electrics on the 400 as the years roll by. The stators varied, along with the corresponding wiring loom and components, like the CDI. Not all will be interchangeable.
On the old forum there used to be a link to a fabulous Japanese SR website where all the differences, year by year, were highlighted but my old memory just can't seem to drag up the name of it. It was a funny sort of name for a bike website. I'll do some random googling, see if I can find it again. If I do I'll post it here.

Thanks for that. It is a common thing for wiring to be different and electronics. I am not too worried about that as when electrical components break I usually buy new ones as don't like second hand ones. Was thinking more if something broke or snapped something
