Hi!
Just signing in. I was looking for an exhaust supplier and saw this forum.
I have a red '78 SR 500, which I purchased new in Guelph, Ontario, early in spring of 1978 from then Yamaha dealer Royal City Cycle. I had already owned a couple of Triumphs and a Norton Interstate and wanted something traditionally "British". Read EVERY magazine article I could get my hands on at the time.
We have travelled to both the CDN east and west coasts on this bike as well as having it flown over to Britain in '83 I think, and visited Eng, Wales and Eire. I ordered the factory rack and modified some old Krauser panniers for travelling two up.
A few years ago we built a new house, had a family of two boys, scouts, soccer, school, yada, yada, and one day my wife pointed out that the insurance that year was about $87.00 a ride!! So in a moment of weakness I sold it - fortunately to a good buddy, who also is very good at maintenance. Deal was I had first right of refusal should he chose to sell it. Of course I was kicking myself as he drove away. This past winter he bought a newer BMW, and lo and behold OUR SR500 is back where it always belonged.
Bike is essentially mint and original, altho' I've done the WB exhaust valve oil feed, all bearings a while ago and lower bars, Progressive shocks and better street tires. Entire original double wall exhaust system was replaced with (I was told?) a triple wall under warranty, and that is still on it and perfect (but too quiet).
Have factory manual and supplement, and a number of articles fromm the era.
Am looking for an aftermarket exhaust - Supertrapp from ThumperGuy? any good, and improving front brake.
Also have two Kawasaki GPzs - a 550 and a 305 - the latter is about as much fun for the money as anything on two wheeels you can buy. But I digress!
Bike is NOT for sale, EVER!!
Chris
