I've got my engine assembled and back in the frame, all fine. Not quite ready for the first fire up but poured a litre of oil into the crankcase via the breather stub and 1&1/2 litres into the frame filler neck [as per Haynes manual]. Deliberately gonna give it a 2-3 days to settle and watch for any distinct drop in oil level after wet sumping woes in the past.Need an opinion on this concern :- the pivot shaft that the camchain tensioner hinges on asks for an O ring to be fitted to it...which I've overlooked. Is this shaft under any oil pressure ? could it be possible that oil could get by and into the sump when engine not running ? No problem to whip the cover off and fit a fresh O ring. Thoughts ?

Hey Andy,
I can't answer query about oil pressure, but if you have had wet sumping issues in the past is it not a good idea to fit new o ring if it is not a big job? Rules out one possible (if improbable) cause and will be one less thing to concern you. If you fit new o ring and wet sumping persists o ring can be ruled out. If you do not fit o ring and wet sumping persists you are going to fit a new o ring anyway so would make sense to do it now. Just my 2 cents mate, hope this is of some assistance.
My SR used to wet sump like a swine before rebuild, when I split motor I found previous owner had fitted oil pump seals the wrong way round. Unlikely this will be your problem be worth checking.

Agreed 👍. Level definitely dropping even though I’ve not fired it up for the first time so took the cover off and other than the o ring I wrote about I’m going to renew the oil seal that fits in the cover over the bottom crankshaft stub….. I can’t see anything else I can replace . More later when I’ve got it back together.

Reckon I've finally cracked it,replaced pump seals, crankshaft seal, double and treble checked the bypass seal was protruding far enough to make an oiltight seal and all is well. Used to be a noticeable difference in oil level after 2-3 days, now looks if its holding up
