Hello All,
Was member of v bulletin site, running a 78 SR I purchased in Johannesburg 2002 and did complete nuts and bolts rebuild last year. Been lurking on site for a while, thought it only polite to finally say hello. Big thumbs up for information/advice available.

Hello Mate, I ride local roads generally 50km to 100km. Beautiful scenery and little traffic outside main areas. She was my transport for daily commute before rebuild, also rode her to Johannesburg and back a couple of times, around 700km round trip. Had around 80,000k on her so did complete refurbish and she is running great, really love riding her. Attachments:

Thanks mate, those are kind words indeed. Motor was rebuilt to standard spec with all new bearings/seals, wiseco piston 9:1, rebore, new rod. Top end new bronze valve guides, valves, springs, collets, camshaft (oem) cam followers and adjusters, double oil feed conversion, cam chain tensioner and chain. Carb got new diaphragms, and keyster rebuild kit, running K&N filter, 30 pilot, needle notch 4, 330 main. Frame looped and de-tabbed, braced in triangle using section from unknown swingarm I had lying around. Rewired and battery eliminator. Seat made using CAD. Cardboard aided design involving old cornflakes packet. Re laced wheels stainless spokes. New sprockets/chain and a set of Hagons at the back. Front end standard with new seals. Took about 2 years from start to finish, mainly due to funds. Minimalist/functional was what I was looking for. Vast majority of stuff is Kedo, sourced by Rexs Speedshop for me and sent via courier, lads were brilliant and a real pleasure to deal with. If I was to die and my wife sold the bike for what she thinks it cost me to build someone would get the bargain of a lifetime.

All good Neal, thanks! Covids killed a few more brain cells than I'd like but I'm still functioning. Bikes been put away for the time being, battery taken indoors and charged, paint and chrome all waxed and wrapped against the salt and covers on. I live too near the sea to take chances. Will be whipping off the covers when the right sort of winter's day presents itself, even if it's just to keep the oil up in the tank! You get to ride all year, you lucky devil.

I hear you mate, as much as I love England I certainly do not miss the weather. I was born and lived in Carlisle before I left many years ago, it gets harsh up there.

Andy, you get to quiz Neal on his wiseco piston! (See Andy's thread sod it, let's do it) Neal, so, a little misdirection about the cost of these things where the misses is concerned? Sensible man!
