That is the classic 'stop break'. This is another example of the wisdom/fixes lost in the transition from the old forum. Iirc check the case to the rear of where that piece fits to see it it has been compromised? They may have (should have) redesigned/upgraded that bit; for a good long while (way back) all the replacements were the same bad bit. I did some careful magnified inspection on my new one decades ago, then judicious edge grinding and bead blasting to hopefully ease any 'stress risers'. A new design/new material part may be better? Fit the pieces together to make sure you have them all, dont want any chunks getting in the tranny.

Just ordered a replacement kit from Kedo[3 components]. Maybe better quality/metal. Its only happened recently because I was in there not long back. Anyway no big disaster fortunately. Your right, not much metal around the hole where it snapped.

What does the kit contain? Does it include a new spring? Be worth it if yours is the original.

Good point! Best practice is to replace springs and such when inside unless the last work was recent (by time or distance run).

Your right, not much metal around the hole where it snapped. When mine broke maybe 20 years ago, I ordered a new one from Yamaha through the local shop, I found out delivery was expected to take at least three weeks (Which is a good portion of our riding season). I went to my garage and clamped the pieces together and welded them back in place with my old Lincoln 220V arc welder and some mild steel rod, probably 6013. I ground it back level and pounded it flat on an anvil and reassembled it. It worked fine, I think I was able to see that it would work before i replaced the cover. Anyway it never gave me a problem. I used it for 2 or 3 thousand miles. The new one from Yamaha was indeed a bit tougher looking although not completely confidence inspiring after experiencing a break with the first one I'm sure your KEDO replacement wil be a big step up over the original Andy, and good you're finding that!

I'll have a close inspection of the spring, gotta laugh to myself..everytime I order something from Kedo I quickly find something else to replace, every item big or small is 15 euros p&p. Might have a look in the U.K for a spring if required......where does it all end

Fowler's parts in Bristol will send you a part in short order for fairly reasonable postage costs. I know people moan about them but I've never had any issue buying genuine Yam stock from them. Arrives pdq.
