Hey everyone new I'm new here. Just got given a sr500 basket case with almost all the parts. I'm new to this and have not really ever done a complete rebuild by myself. I'm starting at the frame getting all the rust off. The Fram has been cut at the back. Has light rust that I'm working on now. I'm trying to decide do I want to extend the frames back end again to fit a longer seat and the process of finding someone to weld it up for me. Then any ideas of where to go after that?

Basic location helps us guide you to parts and or Ref materials. I would download a shop Manuel from the forum. Put the engine on a support stand and start the fun, These motors compared to modern are a piece of cake to work on. Show some pics of the the rear frame, Cheers..

Welding is one thing, if there is fabricating a rear 'hoop' or such it gets more complicated. In every community there are certified welders either owner/operator or shops, you would want to look for someone who does small jobs; ie a job shop, not a place that is only interested in big contract work. Many farmers are pretty good too, they have lots of stuff to fix. You load the CLEAN frame in the car, walk into the shop desk and ask if they will work on a mc frame, BUT Not the Steering end (some/many wont because of the liability). If they will go to the car and bring it in, explain then in detail and Get A Quote.
