Hey Friends.
John here, age 65. Frederick, Maryland.
For 50 years, a healthy plethora of BMWs, Ducatis, Moto Guzzis, Yamahas, and Triumphs have graced my garage. I've enjoyed them all and have done 99% of my riding on two lane country roads in rural Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
I road SR500s at the start of my journey and have never lost my extreme passion for the bike. With a customized 2018 Bonneville T120 being now my longterm daily ride and the ultimate "keeper" for a gent like me to grow old with, I'd been nevertheless keeping my eye open for that one '81 SR500 (my favourite livery year) on the off chance I'd find one in super condition and reasonably priced.
Found it last winter in southwestern Virginia and had it shipped. Several summer/autumn early morning scoots in the twisties later, all I can say is, wow. After all these years, and even compared to the T120, this SR puts a special grin on my face when I remember why I love this thumper so much!
10K. Not a speck of rust. Previously owned by an excellent mechanic. All stock but for 36mm race carb, K&N, and Supertrapp exhaust. New OEM shocks, sprocket and chain. Even the saddle is perfect. I'll post a few photos in the next day or two, promise.
Anyway, just thought to say hi and that I look forward to maybe riding at some point with another SR enthusiast in the area!
