HI fellow SR500 aficionado's...
I hail from Melbourne Australia and have owned my 1980 SR500 since new. It just turned 25 a couple of months ago. Apart from the windscreen and rack and a 1 tooth larger than standard front sprocket, it is stock. It is low mileage and still runs like new, and I enjoy a quick blast down the beach road which is just a few minutes from where I live. I have posted a picture of the bike.
Last year I succumbed to a dream and purchased another bike. It is a 1985 SRX-6, it is quite different to the SR500 . And I enjoy riding both bikes.
There is something about large singles that stirs the soul, maybe it is the sound! (a bit like heavy metal!)
Well I hope I am able to contribute to the SR Forum and looking forward to reading your posts.
Cheers, Mike.

Hi Mike! Welcome to the forum. We have an excellent group of SR riders here who are all very knowledgable. I am sure you will enjoy it here and we look forward to hearing about your years on the SR. Owning it since new is remarkable. I always wanted one over the decades, even when others around here did not understand the appeal. I will probably keep mine forever. Drop us a pic of the SRX also. Luv those too! Talk to you soon, G Man

Thanks Stew,
What are you riding?
Post a pic.
Looks like the weather in Canberra is as cold as Melbourne this week, if not colder. Not much good for riding.
Cheers, Mikec

Hi Stew,
It seems from the pics in the gallary you have at least 3 SR's.
Can you list the things done to the twin disk front end black cafe'd one?
It is labeled as a 1980, but the disk rear places it as 1979.
It sure looks great, how do you keep it so shiny?
Mine is starting do get a bit of surface rust around the frame welds.
Whats the collective noun for a group of SR's?
A RUMBLE!
weak joke.....
Cheers, Mikec.

Mike, The bike you are talking about is an E ('78) model. The photo was taken in 1980 after I first modified it. It is the same bike that now has the TZ tank and seat etc. I have written an article about it that is on the Thumper Page. The article gives a list of all of the mods and stuff I've done to it over the years. It is here: www.thumperpage.com/articles/SRSR500.htmlSR's are great bikes! After owning more bikes that you can 'poke a stick at'...and still owning a fair few...I have decided that the SR's were the ones I kept coming back to, so I sort of specialise in them a bit now I guess. I love modifying them. I have owned 3 XT 500's and 4 SR's and the DCM which has an XT 500 engine. I still have 3 SR's and the DCM to keep me going. I'd buy more really...but maybe I'll wait for the 400's... SR

Stew,
I have come accross a 1981 SR500 here in Melbourne I think is for sale, I dont have the cash, but I thought you might be interested. It has done 56000K's and looks better than mine. I have not ridden it but I know it has just had the carb replaced by either an XT or TT one and have been told it runs fine.
I might be able to get a pic if you like. The owner is a member (or was) of the SR500 club here in Melbourne.
Cheers, Mike.
