G'day all. Thought I'd join up and learn some pearls of wisdom from you all to help keep my SR on the road!
Actually I've got four of the buggers - two in a semi-roadworthy condition, and two in parts. My first SR's I bought in late Aug 2004, then another two in Jun 2005. I should have enough parts now to keep at least one on the road at any time!
The SR is the fourth type of bike I've owned since I got my bike licence many years ago, and hails my return to two-wheeling after an 8 year absence! After 8 years I didn't want to get carried away and buy some superbike that I'd do myself an injury on, and I'd never owned or ridden a thumper, and I coudn't afford a Manx Norton, and I wanted reliability - an SR500 was perfect! After getting my licence in NZ around '88/'89, I always liked the look of the single seater Honda GB400/500TT, but never got around to buying one. While on my Learners, I putted around on an early 70s Honda CB175 while a poor uni student. Not exactly an exciting bike, but reliable transport! When I got a job, I got a 'real bike' - a Suzuki GSX750 Katana with pop-up headlight - a beauty of a bike, but expensive to run. I then donwsized to another cheapy tiddler - a $500 Honda CM200. Cheap to run and fun to ride (after getting rid of the chopper bars and putting on flat bars!) - sometimes taking it off-road to do a bit of bush bashing with a mate on a cheapy Suzuki GP125. He could pull wheel stands on his bike, but my CM wasn't up to it! Anyway I left NZ, travelled a bit, lived in the UK for a few years, and missed having a bike, any bike. Anyway that's history. I'm back on two wheels (woo hoo!!) and lovin' it! Long live the SR!
