Hello all, so I've been chasing an issue with my bike ('79 SR500) not starting/running properly with my dad and we've come to the determination that it's most likely an improper seal is being created where the carburetor (recently added an almost entirely unused Mikuni VM34) meets the cylinder head. I say this because it runs perfectly fine on choke, and then dies instantaneously when the choke is turned off. We also used a method where a propane torch (unlit, of course) was turned on and aimed at the seal to see if it could get in through the seal and affect the engine's idle speed. It did, indicating a bad seal somehow.
I was just curious if anyone else has ever dealt with an issue like this, if there's a specific rubber boot meant for different carbs (since this boot is the original one that was used when my bike had the old, stock Mikuni carb), and just if there's something I might be missing here. Thanks for any help with this!
