Hello,
I'm working on restoring/reconstructing a 1980 US edition SR500.
The front and rear turn signals have been replaced with LED assemblies. I've installed diodes at the indicator light on the speedometer.
The speedometer is not a factory one. It does not have the reed switch for auto-cancel. I don't have the canceling unit installed.
When I have the factory blinker relay installed (for incandescent lights), the correct turn signals (either left/right) and the indicator on the speedometer light up, but they do not blink. When I have a LED relay installed, none of the turn signals light up.
Head light, tail lights, horn etc work fine.
Any troubleshooting suggestions are appreciated!

For anyone having similar issues in the future... I got the signals to flash using a 2-pin relay that I had on-hand instead of the 3 pin versions.
I disassembled the connector that came with the 2-pin relay, cut off the existing prongs, and crimped on two male prongs to fit the motorcycle-side connector.
The red wire on the 2-pin relay goes to the power wire (brown). The black wire on the 2-pin relay goes to the middle pin (brown/white) that goes to the handlebar switch.
The remaining wire just goes to the flasher cancel unit which I'm not using anymore.
Regards,

For U.S. models, this relay will work instead of taking apart the relay as above. Note that other regions of the world may have the signal wire flipped to the other side.
WARNING: Installing the wrong relay might cause damage.

Yeah I have several different 2 pin automotive flashers , they all have different part numbers on them and flash at different rates. I just keep swapping them till I get an acceptable flasher rate/speed. Maybe 3 bucks each. I don’t have led lights , sometimes you need to add resistor too. Led lights suck , create more problems than they’re worth. Let me say that again led lights suck , being seen is important , at night they suck cause can’t be seen from a safe distance , during daylight hours they can’t even be seen , creates an unsafe/unhealthy condition for you.

Hello, macconraoi
Please feel free to ask any questions and good luck with your project.
FYI. Someone had created a nice color version of the wiring diagram here which helped me a lot. I believe the wiring diagram above is from a SR500F US version. Some of the other regions of the world may have minor differences including the signal relay wires being swapped.
