My '78 XT front brake drum measures correctly at 160mm, but the EBC shoes I have bought are around 156mm measured across the outside of the shoe faces when fitted onto the brake plate. This means I have to wind the brake arm pivot through about 30° before attaching the cable, otherwise the brake shoes simply don't reach the drum at all when pulling on the lever. I can make the brake work after a fashion by setting up the relative positions of the levers and cable, but brake performance is crap, the shoes only touching the drum in the centre of their curvature. Anybody else had this issue, and is there another brake shoe manufacturer who can be recommended ?

I remember having this problem in the olden days, I wrapped the camshaft with some sheet metal spacing the shoes out. It was a bodge but worked.
