Hi all, I am a newbie and have just joined.
I have a 1977 XT which is in reasonable shape, and a totally original 1976 TT complete with original exhaust, wheels, handlebars, everything. Got it from the guy who bought it in 1976. Still getting this one back from the USA though.
Now, I have managed to stupidly lose the cam stopper from the 1977 XT when I was fixing oil leaks, and the gears don't work. The plug holding this in did not have a proper gasket and was leaking oil (this is the plug next to the oil drain plug) so I removed it fix it. Lost the cam stopper somehow. Idiot.
Anyway, I am having trouble getting another cam stopper as they are no longer available (part 278-18547-02-00) nos. Cam stoppers for 1980 xts onwards are available but have a different part number (1J7-18547-00-00) to 1979 and before. Does anyone have a 1976, 1977,1978,1979 engine they could pull the plug, spring and cam stopper out of and measure up please and take a picture?. It takes a few minutes only. It is probably the same as the one from the 1980 onwards which I can buy. The Yamaha schematics show them to look the same but I can't really be sure.
Thanks heaps if anyone can help. If not, I guess I will wait to examine the one in the TT when I get that back, but this may be another 6 months yet.
