It seems that over the last couple of years, aftermarket parts availability for the SR500 here in the US has dwindled somewhat. Over the summer I tried getting parts from KEDO but found that they no longer ship to the US and Canada (for insurance reasons so they say). And, I've read that Thumperstuff may be out of business. Is this true? Also, as of October 12, 2005, EVA is no longer selling aftermarket parts for the SR500 (as noted on their website). And White Brothers no longer makes or sells any parts for the SR500 (nor any other street motorcycle).
Does anybody have any contacts for aftermarket parts such as performance headpipes, carburetor kits, rearsets, etc., that will ship to the US? And please don't recommend Over Racing; their exhaust systems are too modern and their rearsets are outrageously expensive.
It's sad that here in the US we have a very difficult time finding all the cool stuff for these bikes.
Thanks

Hi, yes it can be difficult, especially as it can be complicated to get parts out of Japan.
Try a new business here in Aus for help. They are called Deus and they're website is: deusexmachina.com.au.
They bring in Daytona and other stuff at reasonable prices.

Hi Mike: Being here in the US, I couldn't agree with you more! Here's a few places I've found. I've bought from Sudco, Web-Cam and Spec II (Spec II has rearsets listed on their site for $149!!! However, after calling and ordering them, the owner realized he hadn't updated the price and wouldn't honor the $149. But did go $250, which is still GREAT if you ask me. His mount on the stock footpeg mounts and are available for rear drum or disc. I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival. BTW, if you order from him tell him Gary, the guy who bugged him to dig out his old jig for the SR rearsets referred you, btw his name is Gary also). Good luck and keep us updated! www.specii.com/index2.htmlwww.powroll.com/P_YAMAHA_TTXTSR500.htmwww.sudco.com/omarsdtr.com/exhaust10a.htmlwww.webcamshafts.com/www.mikesxs.com/(Yes its a XS650 site, but a lot of the parts, forks, trees, calipers, etc. et al, bolt right up to the SR) There's also a company in Anaheim, CA that keeps running White Bros. SR head pipe auctions on eBay. Like they bought a bunch of old stock. I've kept my eye on 4 or 5, so who know how many they have. I won one. Its nice. Here's a current auction (sorry for the live link if anyone is offended) cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/White-Brothers-Oversize-Headpipe-for-YamahaSR500_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35596QQitemZ4590432403QQrdZ1(If the link doesn't work try a search on eBay motors for White Brothers Oversize Headpipe) Also try... www.oldbikebarn.comI probably have more. I'll scrounge through my bookmarks and check. I've had to go to eBay for a lot though. Good luck Mike! Gary Hopwheels

Thanks for the info Stew & Gary.
Gary - Let us know how the rearsets turn out from Spec II. I saw them on their website the other day and figured the prices were old. The rearsets that I really wanted were the classic ones from KEDO but as I said earlier, they no longer sell or ship to the US. KEDO also has a really nice stainless headpipe but it is also out of reach.
I've dealt with Mike's XS650 before when I did a petcock conversion to an XS750 Triple (not a very good motorcycle) to eliminate the dreaded leaky petcock problem. He was great to deal with. I figured I go back for another petcock for the SR along with one of his front brake master cylinders.
As far as the rearsets go, if I have to, I can get the Tarozzi adaptable set and fabricate hangers, etc., for them.
There are several overseas sites for the headpipe and if it comes down to it I could probably get one from BSM (courtesy of David Silver Spares).
The carb is going to be a different issue. I'm real happy with the FCRs on my Ducati Supersport so may go with one of those. But the Mikuni VM is a tried and true conversion. It's just a matter of putting together a kit for it if I go that way (unless Thumperstuff is still in business and selling them).
Anyway, chat with you guys later.

Hello Rafael, You should be able to obtain replacement parts from a Yamaha dealer as these bikes were still in production as of a couple years ago. The SR400 is still in production. If you have trouble with your dealer then you can try Kedo. They'll ship to your country and they have a lot of parts for the SR500. Here's their link. www.kedo.com/Hope this helps.

Gary (hopwheels), did you ever get the rearsets from SpecII? If so, how do they look? Have you installed them yet?
Thanks, Dave
