I just received a 1977 XT500D. It looks decent and has been kept inside. It is missing the carburetor. I have been all over the internet and it seems there are many opinions as to what the correct Carburetor for this bike is. this bike is stock. My goal it to get it running but I am not sure which carb to get. I have a Clymer manual coming in the mail. My questions:

What carburetor goes with this bike?

Where could I get this carb?

Does this bike need a battery to run?

Any other advice on this bike is appreciated.

I know it needs a Mikuni but I have seen round, flat, pumper Mikunis. it seems there are many options. does anyone here have a stock xt500d? what carb do you have? I see several on Thumper Stuff. Any help is very much appreciated.
