I have a 1978 SR project underway and want spoked wheels. I've seen great pictures of "flat tracker" looking conversions - spoked wheels, custom seats and I want to get some where close to that when I'm done but have no I idea where to obtain these parts. I live in Seattle and would appreciate any info on which wheels are adaptable etc. Thanks

Wire wheels...there are any number of wheels available with various degrees of work required to make them fit...some can't be used while others simply bolt straight up. I have placed some stuff on drums here: sr500forum.proboards38.com/v45index.cgi?board=projects&action=display&thread=1685If you're building a dirt-track styled bike then I guess an SR500/400 wire wheel for the rear, equally (...or possibly it will be the most simple to find) an XT one would also be the go. For the front decide on the rim size, say 18" or 19" for a tracker, then decide on a hub. 21" is more for trailies or MXers...but you could probably find a 21" dirt bike wheel to go straight in of course... Full width hubs are a good way to go, but equally you could also use a 2LS from a YZ or an IT or similar...speedo drives are also something to consider with the hub style unless you go with a electronic speedo such as a Vapour or a Trail Tech etc. The SR came with a really nice front drum for many years...Vanem I know can get them in occasionally...e-mail them...see post enclosed above for some pics... Of course you could always go to a front disc as well...rear discs are more problematic on an SR, although not impossible. Hope this has assisted. SR

Don't forget that if you go to a rear spoked wheel with drum brake, you're going to have to either add a swingarm tab for the brake backing rod or get a drum brake swingarm (off an 80-81 SR). And also your brake pedal pivot arm will be different. Just details... miker

Thanks for the info. sounds like there may be more to it than I originally thought. I was hoping that there was a set up for sale somewhere as a package deal. Maybe Japan? I have been very inspired by some custom bikes I've seen here and am starting the research to compile the parts for my own tracker project.
