hi all
i test rode a SR500 today and we had some starting issues due a little confusion over the usage of the choke. however, we eventually got it going.
my girlfriend currently rides a SV650. i would like her to be able to use the bike also. my question is, assuming everything is working properly, will a fit (but only 59kg) female be able kickstart one of these bikes?

No worries...one of our ACT SR Club members is a girl of about the same size, who incidentally also owns an SV650...a blue one... She has no problems with her SR at all. SR

I started mine today with only sandals on. They have a soft rubber sole that is not very stiff like normal shoes and prevents pushing down very hard so I think a female would be able to start it easily when its cool. It does take a pretty strong kick when it's hot though.

I weigh just over 60kg and have never had any problems kicking over my SR400. Most of the time I don't even have to jump. She'll be fine.

I taught my girlfriend how to ride on an SR500.
First lesson starting.....she can now start it first or second kick.

Be carefull teaching the fairer sex to start a 500.
For many years I told my daughter that when she could start my TT500 she could ride it. Last year she actually started it, and while riding around the back paddock, got a bit carried away and opened the throttle too far while crossing the driveway. The driveway is built up a bit and is a decent hump to cross. None to say she wheelied and looped the bike over backwards, resulting in badly bent handle bars, broken levers and broken front and rear mudguards, all genuine OME Yamaha bit nolonger avaliable. I ended up in trouble with the wife because I was more concerned about my bike that her (our) darling little girl (aged 22, 6ft tall, 80kg, blonde hair).
So don't teach girls too ride 500's, it causes too much trouble.

Hi, just started my 79 for the 1st time this year, it's a restore from 28years in a garage. I'm having trouble walking upstairs, my foots hurting, I'm feeling old & out of shape, but the old SOB started, then died, then started.... then I limped & took another bike out of winter hibernation,.... it's electric start, on a defective trickle charger, charged it ..... put gas in it ... floats stuck.... hey it ran. Limped back over to the SR .. replaced fuel line... weaping .... memories of my old Bonnie catching on fire .... went over (yea, still limping) fixed the other carb ... happy limping, hey my thigh is sore, ankle too, bad knee is fine. So, I'm impressed with myself, .. gonna limp upstairs after the nap ... tell the Forum how happy I am I got the bike going. So here I am, after reading about the ladies starting the SR's & someone using sandles, it's like that video of the guy who starts his SR with one hand. I do think this happens in America. My daughter has dropped the Harley & the gv. No HD's oy SR's for her. ..... means I forgot what I was doing while working on the bikes. I had fun. Dave

Goodmorning, my leg feels better. I actually had a question to ask on my last message, so tired I forgot. I'm at the next phase which is repainting the 79 the original Black/Gold. Does anyone have any good information on this paint before I take some of the old faded parts for a color match at the paint shop. thanks Dave

The original black actually has a tiny gold fleck through it...not sure where you would be able to get that reproduced exactly... SR

Thank you, on the color question. I cleaned the old paint, very scratched but looks like gold dust vs. the flakes from that time period. Bikes running very well in the yard, boy those BT45's really like the wet grass..... it's starting to be springtime here 42F=5C I believe. Then I looked at the last pictures from the KVR, it's looks warm, people had fun & a beautiful country. Thanks Dave

The BT45s are great tyres in my opinion...they work well in the dry and in the rain as well. Yes the weather at the KVR was nice...second year in a row. Hope that it continues for ever...heh, heh... SR

I took your advice & got the BT45's. They are excellent tire! Today I took them on my wet grassy hill for a little hill climb..... it was kinda funny I was almost going backwards. Excited, trying to kill myself in my own yard. Been a long winter, cabin fever.

Here in Aus, even in cool Canberra, we can ride all year 'round. Can't really imagine not being able to do this. Well I can...but I just don't want to! Here's the sky outside my computer room right now...hmm, might go outside now...heh, heh... SR
