Over a couple of months here I have seen references to a kit to provide lubrication to the top end, Yesterday I went looking for a definitive set of postings on this with no success. What is this lubrication issue about - and where can I find details on the parts or a kit to provide lubrication to the top end Thanks

There's a good thread on page 5 of this section. xt500forum.boards.net/index.cgi?board=Engine&action=display&thread=975You can order a second oil line from Thumperstuff in Washington state (where I got mine) or make your own. Down the road I'll make my own, something cool like some of the others here have made. For now the Thumpstuff one seems to work fine and was cheap enough. Thumperstuff is a good place to know about, and Mark, the owner, has always been great to deal with. The jury is still out on whether the extra line is needed. I think it is, but I can't prove it.

The fact that the factory themselves moved the oil line speaks volumes. I think the double oilers aren't a good idea as you have increased the number of outlets, but not the amount or pressure of the oil you are supplying. It may be academic, but I'm sticking to one oiling point, to the exhaust valve side, to ensure correct pressure and flow.
Yamaha also changed the design of the rocker arms, which probably made the biggest difference as the oil is sprayed on to the cam face with the new type and the pad is a different material. The old type had a hole on the rocker face, which may have caused the cam to fail. The late type rocker arms can be retro fitted to early engines if you are fitting a new cam or your one has no wear.

My TT engine burnt up the wrist pin. Has anybody ever tried countersinking the oil hole in the top of the rod? Or drilling two extra oil holes in the rod at 45 degree angles to the wrist pin? It was an old hot rod trick on small block Chevys.
