Can anyone recommend a source for a decent exhaust headpipe?
I'd like to find something a bit longer than the stock pipe so I can use different mufflers. I don't need anything fancy just something to replace the rotten original double walled pipe.
Thanks for any direction.

I don't need anything fancy just something to replace the rotten original double walled pipe. Thanks for any direction. In the U.S., you can still buy a factory replacement headpipe from your local Yamaha dealer -- or the same thing from Thumperstuff ( www.thumperstuff.com/index.html ) for $219. Of course, it's going to be short, just like the original one. Mark does sell a longer headpipe in black ceramic for $152 which would probably meet your needs. Or, you can buy a full exhaust system from Omar's www.omarsdtr.com/exhaust.html -- with a muffler for about $400. Or, Jemco in Houston, makes a nice exhaust with muffler for about $250 (bare mild steel, or nickel plated for $70 more) www.jemcoexhaust.com/index.html There's goinwitdaflow, a pipe maker on eBay selling flat track pipes for XT/TT's that should work on an SR. $250 with a reverse cone end that you can fit Supertrapp discs and cap on. One of the members on the forum (cycomoto) has begun to handle Kedo products from Germany. They offer a longer than stock stainless steel head pipe, about $228 + shipping from Atlanta Georgia. Here's a link to a company in England selling Daytona exhausts (if you have to ask "how much", you can't afford it) daytona-japanesebikeparts.com/sr400.aspxIn Australia, CafeRacerCarl says that Deus ( www.deus.com.au/ ) will be offering a stainless steel exhaust system soon. No price info, only that it will be affordable. Bill

Or you could find a good exhaust guy ! I've just had 4 longer headers bent up ,in staino with a kickup behind the footpeg to give that sweeping up muffler look. It took him 6 months to do it though & it took 6 months to get the sample made & modified in the first place. But the result was worth the wait! All up I threw about $600 aus at them(4 staino pipes & 1 lower grade staino sample, that will do if I need it!)But it was from santa anyway ! I'll have to see if the elves will fit them for me on the night If not it will fit in with my new years resolution(to spend more time on my bikes in 2009! Cheers Dave

Try this german site,I've had numerous bits and pieces plus a stainless downpipe [goldstar style] very good to do biz with, prompt service and excellent prices in comparison to some of the outrageous places you've been pointed at. shop.ebay.com/merchant/biebo_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZDrop me an e-mail if you want to see my stainless header or look at andy's sr500 on the picture gallery.Regards, Andy

Hey Guys, new to the site and glad to see the very topic I need help on is being discussed.A lot of suggestions and help here,GREAT ! My question is:Are there any sources for "high pipe"set-ups? There is a great looking sr with a left side high pipe on the "VD Classics" site that is what I think I'd like to put on my build. It might be a custom unit,I don't know.I picked up a really good looking "Hooker" long meg style muffler at Barber's vintage event and would like to use it if I could just find a head pipe that would work with it.Any suggestions??? Thanks,Steve C.
