I am looking for a good mechanic near Ashland, NY (north end of Catskills Park) to service a 1981 SR500. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Forget it! You should always do the work yourself rather than depending on a so-called "mechanic". The 19 year old high school dropouts working at the dealers or a bike shop never do a good job and besides the bike is bound to be older than any of them. If it isn't a sport bike they won't have any idea what to make of it.

I agree, but I was hoping to find an old timer for my buddy to use. I do all my own work, but I'm in Atlanta and he's in New York. He needs some help getting the bike ready for spring. I'd like to find someone that can help him install a rebuilt carburetor, replace the petcock, oil change. Basic stuff.

I took my front wheel in to have the tire replaced and after telling him which side the rotor was on, he still put the tire on the wrong way. As for engine work, it's nice having a Dad that knows every nook and cranny of a Yamaha 500 engine.
