Hi, Quick simple question about battery, apologies for being a bit clueless. My sr400 had a 5A battery out of a little scooter when i bought it, original spec for the sr was a 7A I do believe but I could only get hold of a 6A that would fit. so my question is, is there any reason why I shouldn't just leave it in? Lights and horn are all fine and as the ignition doesn't use the battery it should be fine, no? would like to get rid of it altogether eventually but for now will it suffice? Billy

The correct replacement battery is still readily available. If what you have fits and is working correctly leave well alone. Getting rid of the battery will mean you'd have to fit a capacitor in its place. Many people do this, but if you break down you have no lights.

Thanks aero, I just needed a bit of reassurance as its all new to me. I would love to get a correct replacement but unfortunately where I am ( in the Thai wilderness) it would mean a traipse into Bangkok or ordering it from somewhere, neither of which I could be arsed to do as the wiring on the old battery was almost burned out and needed replacing pronto. I shall leave it for now, and maybe one day I can be arsed fit a battery eliminator. We shall see.

The only thing to go wrong would be too small of a battery getting cooked by overcharging. I haven't had this happen on the SR, only on an XS650. Sounds like yours is more than close enough to work fine.
