I built a new headlight mount for my SR. I wanted the new one to set the headlight a bit higher on the bike and wanted to get rid of the sheetmetal mount and ears. I am going to use the stock headlight nacelle as I like the large headlight. Since I am not running the stock instrument cans, I wanted the headlight to sit higher to maintain aesthetics.
On top of the headlight is going to be mounted my electronic instrument cluster and my electrical system is going to be stripped down. I am not going to use any key or ignition switch. Afterall I have a decompression kill switch and no battery.
My plan was to use tubular steel to make the mounts. I used some steel plate to mount the tubes to the bike.
I used what I had at hand, ei. 1/2"x.065" tubing and some 1/8" plate. I am sure it could be made with less material. I have it welded up and it will probably weigh almost the same as the original design.
Technical difficulties prevent me from posting any photographs tonight. Perhaps from work I can post photos if anyone is interested.

Here is the prototype. It needs grinding and paint yet.

I had some time today so I worked on my new headlight mount. I ground down the welds. Added a bit of new weld in. Filled in some flaws with spot putty and sanded and sprayed it. i also drilled some mount holes in my headlight nacelle after figuring out what angle my Trail Tech Vapor computer should be mounted at. I used some new grommets from the local hardware store. My mount sets the bowl about an inch higher than stock and may stick out a bit more. It has an open look to it. No sheet metal ears. It weighs less than stock by a fair amount. Well here it is before I trial mounted it. and I still have to add a tab to hold the vertical light adjuster and to hold the horn.

Looks very nice! Send a pic of it installed on the bike when you get it all wrapped up.
