has anyone tried to put RG500 front end on to an SR500? I met a guy who reckons it will all fit sweet (having said this he is trying to sell them to me!).
He believes that they will be lighter and stiffer (plus the dual discs).
cheers Stew

I don't know about the RG500, but GSX600/750 Katana forks can be easily adapted to the SR500. (See this thread: sr500forum.proboards38.com/index.cgi?board=Suspension&action=display&thread=2142 ) When you change to sport bike forks, you will also have to change the headlight mounting method (not difficult), the horn, and if you use the clip on bars, your SR500 clutch and throttle cables will be too long. It gets complicated. Since you mention the dual discs, I assume the forks come with a front wheel. Probably a 17" front wheel -- which means that you will want to use a 17" rear wheel as well. That's where it gets downright difficult. The SR swingarm is quite narrow (about 8.25" not counting the axle adjusters) and most sportbike rear wheels are much wider. You might have to find another swingarm, which can lead to further problems with shock placement and other factors. I'm not saying it can't be done, only that you need to be prepared to put a lot of effort into it.

Thanks Bill! Yep, that sounds like a whole lot of headache which I don't really need.
I actually like the way the SR handles as is but I have always thought that a bit more stopping power would be nice.

It's easy and cheap enough to add a second front caliper (I think folks use the right side caliper from an XS400 or XS650), another SR500 rotor (or two FZR rotors) and a master cylinder with a larger piston diameter. Search this sub-forum and you'll find all the details. You might do as well (without the added weight of more rotors and calipers) by changing to a more aggressive brake pad. Bill

I can tell you from having done a swap (whole front end with 17" wheels front and rear) If you have the means and are able to do it, it's worth it. The bike will handle MUCH better and you will lose a good chunk of weight ( alot of it unsprung) in the process.

OK Pit, I think you just took it to another dimension, an amazing project! I would love to achieve that!
Thanks Stew
