Let me start by saying that Im new on here I live in the UK and I heve recently got myself a ratty SR with the intention of building something a bit special, So far I have tried to contact the Tank Shop over 20 times with no success to try and order a tank and seat, then I thought I would try some of the other fabrication firms local and UK wide , the answers so far have been Sorry mate can't do that , too busy , Charlie could do it but he's not here etc etc , So I thougt I will email Deus in Oz, within 10mins I get a reply "yes mate no problem" we can supply seat and tank, Then I email Vanem and the really nice guy there is like "yeh mate no prob's we can supply that" then he gives me loads of info and advice ( top bloke , so anyway I end up placing order with Deus on last Friday and the following the bits turn up on the doorstep Tuesday Fan*******tastic ! Then I thought I will order some Firestone classic tyres!! UK ! No sorry mate can't get them , maybe but it will take a couple of weeks , never heard of the etc etc , SO ! I email Universal Tires in USA , 5 mins later, reply , Yes mate got them in stock, give Card number and they are on the way (top show ) In fairness Harris Performance UK can source the Ohlins shocks I want but they are from the States and have a months lead time on them but they can get them. However a set of Wilburs or YSS shocks would / are cheaper from OZ I love the CAN DO attitude of the Aussies and the Yanks AND its all substantially cheaper than here !! IS IT ME ?? Ribbo

Wish it were true — and maybe it is for Australia — but there's no lack of good old fashioned incompetence here.
Also always lots of games going on, so it's always good to be cautious.
Seems to be trouble brewing for international credit-card transactions too. I understand in January (?) the EC isn't going to recognize cards unless the owner has a 4-digit pin. American credit-card companies aren't issuing pin numbers and aren't warning anyone that some countries require them. (Imagine all those 747s disgorging unsuspecting tourists dependent on credit cards and without accesss to funds.)
Now that's world-class incompetence.

I'm glad to hear you were helped out the Sydney fellas mate
Doing better than me on the parts i orderd from Deus - 18 mnths ago - and i live around the block - but I was only after a mirror (cheap) not a tank ($$$). Glad to see they shaped up
Adrian is first class at Vanem, and gets it right 99% of the time i think
BUT we have plenty of shitehouse motorcycle stores here also, where you can walk in literally wanting to waste a whole stack of cash, but leave with your money in your pocket because no one could be stuffed to come help you in store.
Maybe you just lucked out on thelocals?

You've done better with Deus than I did. I bought a seat off them on ebay around nine months ago. Still waiting and they didn't answer my emails. Oh well.
Adrian at Vanem is who you want to go through. Very helpful bloke.

Looks like is further proof that the grass is always greener on the other side of the pond. I am having a SR rebuilt by a local mechanic. Since July....

Yeh good point, no offence , I have been to the States numerous times and met some good people, The point " as much as I hate to admit it " is a reflection of the useless twats in the UK that can't be bothered. Ribbo

LOL...Not a problem. I lived 3 years in Brasil and have been to probably a half dozen different countries. They all have one thing in common. Both good people and some that are not so good.
Plus, I wanted to poke a bit that that errrr guy (that's as nice a name as I can call him) that's in the White House.

I think Adrian at Vanem would shine wherever he chose to run his business. Absolutely the best customer service I have ever received in any area. He is devious though, his superb customer service will make you feel guilty even looking at other Web sites and suppliers Dan Kyle is a great source stateside for all things Ohlins, very knowledgeable and a real gentleman. Have to say he his second tier when compared to Adrian's customer service though! I ran around after him over some very late delivery on a shock for my CBR 929 a few years ago. Seems they forgot to order it .... he did the right thing though and gave me a smokin' hot deal on a full Ti Sato pipe and Power Commander with their custom map. Bill--

Hi Ribbo, try this http--www.yamaha-xt500 its the u.k sr/xt site.I dont know where you are in the u.k but this site is first class,Dave the site administrator is a top bloke and i've lost count of how many times he has gave me technical advice and obtained all sorts of parts,he is the English equivalent to Stewross who runs this site I dont think you could get a f*g paper between either in terms of help and info.Any problems drop me an e-mail.He has also set-up an online shop, admitted the specialist one-off bits can be difficult occasionally but i'm sure he could have helped with the tyres and shocks.
Regards,Andy [Leicester,England]

Hey Marlon I wish ! I don't hate the mother country mate I just hate the inefficency of some of the UK companies.
I have been to Oz a number of times and I think its a fantastic country but family constraints won't allow me to move just yet , I may have 6 months out there in a year or two.
Cheers Ribbo
