Hello fellow SR addicts! This week, sick of looking at the messy backside of my bike I decided to do something about it so I called Craig, who runs "The Mischief Makers" out at Fitzroy. They are based out of the back of Intyre Motorcycles. Craig refurbishes generators at powerplants and is heavily into the bike building/modding scene with a passion for cafe racers. So I took the bike in, we had a quick chat about what I wanted and one working day later this comes back. Cor! The old: The new: i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/marlon1985/Good7.jpg[/img] i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/marlon1985/Good1.jpg[/img] i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/marlon1985/Good2.jpg[/img] i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/marlon1985/Picture005.jpg[/img] Excuse the gratuitous pics! Now I need to work on the symetry - it really does need a different tank, something with a larger rear. I've not counted out chopping the fron bit of the seat and sourcing a RD350 style tank, but I think it might need something a bit more curvey. Ideally I'd get a Deus TT tank, but there are a bit common these days. And then... to the instrument cluster/headlight!

Hey Chewy! I think those photos might be a bit deceiving. On the 400 it's a screw in cap as well, but it has a panel that flicks aside for the lock.
Stew, i was going to the rally - I swear! But that weekend is the motorcycle expo in Sydney and I have to fly up and work there. It's a bit of a shit, because I was hoping to catch yourself, curley and all the other fellas there. Bugger.
BUT! I'm coming to the rally at Bethanga, and making a bigger weekend of it next year.

It took several looks to see what was done. Your bike is noticeably improved.
Makes me wonder why Yamaha made such a do about frame design. Taking a 315 pound bike and making it a 360 pound bike, with very little gain in functionality. Guess it helps looking on the design 30 years after the fact.
Still glad that I can ride my antique and not worry about the latest and greatest. Yet still have a machine that makes the thumps!

I like the way the rear looks now, much improved. I was going to do the same thing at one stage but chickened out.

Hey Curly! You'll find me at the QBE stand in the middle of the whole schmozzle.
Which wrist did you break? Hope it's not your important one.
Thanks PCNSD! I now need to clean up the front end - on the hunt for a top triple clamp and some grips bar end weights etc from Adrian at Vanem.

Looks great! So the Mischief Makers are different to the guy who took ages on your last job?
Saw Russel from the Club on Sunday at the Brit bike ride (see the post below), he enthusiastically encouraged me to come to the Rally, even offered me a lift, but with the SR doing what it did I'm almost definitely out - kinda loses half the point if I can't do it on the bike!
We'll have to line our black and white bikes up for a photo shoot once I get this problem sorted, get back to Vanem for a cable, and finish my wild soft chopper conversion...classic British tough vs classic American tough!
