2 up wheelies = STUPID. The last time I saw that the girl on the back was in the hospital for 2 months.

The driver is pretty good at wheelies though, even with the heavy weight passenger on back.

I think it may be easier to initiate a wheelie with a bit of rear counterweight. Still.. there is some skill on display there. I wonder; how well does he corner.

In about 1983 I was at the easter bike races at Bathurst which the Aussies will all know about but for the rest of the world it was probably the biggest bike event in Aus during the 70's and through to about 85 or 86. The weekend was as much about the atmosphere and fun as the bike racing and Saturday night always degenerated into a riot when the riders started stirring up the cops who stupidly thought a compound in the middle of several thousand drunk and stoned bike riders intent on having a good time was a great idea. anyway to cut a long story short Saturday lunch time I was taking my brother and mate and myself to get some lunch on my GPZ1100 and I discovered that with 3 on board (one sitting on the gear rend of my multi pack) it was possible to do wheelstands on the dirt. anyway as my parents used to say it's all good fun till someone looses an eye, the first and second runs were spectacular and drew a huge crowd then the third run went horribly wrong and I ended up under the bike with a broken ankle. minimal damage to the bike as I thoughtfully threw myself under it, the other 2 guys were ok, that was the end of my multi person stunting. The only upside to the whole thing was that I didn't have to buy another beer all weekend as appreciative people kept me well supplied for the entertainment I had provided, most people would think we were insane but that was the sort of place it was. I still practice those skills but I am much more aware of where and when than I used to be and I cringe when I see the young guys doing stuff in traffic like I used too. Cheers Rich

Some guys are just really good at it aren't they?I gave that kind of thing up in about 83 after thinking that I was pretty good at it after flipping my XT550 really bad doing a simple mono in the bush! I had my favorite spot where I could hit it in 3rd & just lift the wheel and give it a bit of throttle & you could just hold it like I was a pro . So when I tried it on this spot in the bush it came up OK but when the rear wheel left the ground momentarily ,it just bit in & my butt hit the ground so hard it felt like my body came through my ring hole . The bike didn't fair too well either , I broke off my gear shift shaft level with the casing & somehow I rode it home in 3rd with the gear stick in my pocket. I then discovered that the 550 was different than the 500 in that department too as the shaft goes just into the centre of the engine not through to the other side clutch casing making the job a full strip down not just an hours job(It was a bummer coz the bike was only a couple of months old & I really devalued it big time)So after I'd ordered the part I then had to order a heap more parts. So now If I get tempted to do wheelies I get on my old 250 that has no bits to break(& if it does break I don't even care)All that said XT500s are the best bike for doing monos on by far & that guy has got it down pat !Cheers Dave.

Sorry that happened to you, i use to have a XT550 to,...loved it! Once the same thing happened to me, but that was with a brand new Montesa Cota 348. Did a wheely on that thing driving on public road on a fly over ! I was standing on the footpegs, ass not touching the seat. Well to make a long story short, the bike flew over the railing 10 meter low, and i ran a world record ! Lesson #1 Always i repeat ALWAYS keep your foot on the rear break lever ! when you lose ballans and turning the throttle even open more, the rear break is your saveguard !

Good point but I think my problem is the message from my brain to my foot gets there to slow (slower than my butt reaching the ground anyway)My 550 was never the same again cheers Dave.
