Hello everybody, it is going to get cold in the north eastern US and I am wondering if generator and battery to SR500 is going to be able to handle a heated jacket hook up, I normally use heated clothing in the winter buy I never ridden my SR using a heated jacket and I don't want to screw up the electrical system, anybody have had an experience dealing with this issue? your responses are appreciated.

Cheez I'm so glad I live in a climate that I've never even thought of such a thing! But I'd doubt there would be more than a couple of spare amps ? Of course there would be more available if you left your lights off . Look in the electrical section as there was a guy a couple of weeks ago asking about extra lights & sirens but I don't recall the out come. Cheers Dave.

I would doubt the SR's generator would be upto the job. Heaters tend to draw a large current and the SR is not blessed with a large generator.
You need to find out what current the clothing will draw.
I would think you'd be able to draw upto an extra amp from the standard system, more then that and you will loose battery charging and your lights. You could replace all the minor bulbs with LEDs to free up some more power, but I doubt you'd get nearly enough power.
Adding a bigger battery won't help as you have to charge it, and a bigger battery needs more current to do that.

Thank you all for responses, looks like the best is to use a different bike in cold weather with heated clothing on. I can always trailer the bike to Florida and ride it over there in the winter, LOL. ride safe

Or get clothing with sewn-in pipes that you can attach as an oil cooler...

Here in Oz the question would be whether it would run a chiller. I did the sums once, and decided I could not run a couple of 50 watt driving lights for spotting roos. Bummer. Mick

That'd be a pain.
A mate of mine runs spotties on his DR650 - you can run anything off those bastards.
Now I'm thinking about it, i'm missing going shooting. Thinking of my Smelly's all rusting away back home...
Anyway, back to heated stuff...
